It was really exciting finding the wild bee tree in February, but it didn’t happen exactly by the book. I’ve still got a lot to learn about conducting a bee hunt. This is one of my goals for 2020. I’ve just discovered a really useful video of the great bee hunter Professor Thomas Seeley demonstrating a successful bee hunt, and I think that you might like it too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fCwoZwPilo
Great video Anne..loved it . Thanks for sharing.
It’s good isn’t it. I wonder if there are any wild bees around Grantown?
That’s good Gregor. Nice to know it is apprecialted.
Thank you, Ann, for sharing with your readers the link to my youtube video on bee hunting (aka bee lining).
I recommend it as an activity that is both great fun (a kind of treasure hunting) and a great complement to bee keeping. The beekeeper works with whole colonies, but the bee hunter works with individuals and in doing so learns how different worker bees have different “personalities.” Some work quickly, while others do so slowly. Some are bold, while others are timid. Etc., etc.
Thanks again.
You made it look exciting (which of course it is) and it is a great accompaniment to your book. Thank you for making it,Tom. I’ve written up my first bee hunting adventure for Bee Culture magazine which should appear in early 2020.
It was my pleasure, Tom. Thank you for providing the material.
