Professor Anne Sverdrup- Thygeson writes with such affection for the amazing insects that inhabit our planet. Most of us we will only ever read about many of them. However, this book inspires me to go out and look for more insects. It is packed with fascinating facts. You will not be short of entertaining anecdotes for your next party. I bet you didn’t know that there is a species of butterfly with eyes on its penis. Anne also tells us how it is that headless fruit-flies can carry on, almost as usual, for a couple of days before they die of starvation. Unlike many scientific books, this one is easy to read and it keeps me totally engaged, and smiling.
